Driving Test Report

Evaluation

The driving evaluation is a two-part evaluation consisting of a clinical pre-driving evaluation and a behind-the-wheel evaluation. The whole evaluation takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete. A driver's license or instructor permit is required to drive on public streets. A physician's referral is required to schedule an evaluation.

Clinical Pre-Driving evaluation

The first part of the driving evaluation is the clinical pre-driving evaluation. At this time, your general information, medical history, and driving history will be obtained, and the current status of your driver's license/permit with be verified. An occupational therapist will then assess and evaluate the client status on the following as they pertain to driving:

  • Physical

  • Visual

  • Cognitive

The second part of the driving evaluation is the behind the wheel evaluation. This will be conducted in one of our instructor vehicles. The behind the wheel evaluation consist of the following:

  • Identify proper steering wheel, seat, and mirror placement.

  • Performing a series of maneuvers in either a parking lot or in a simple residential area.

  • Progress toward more difficult road environments, such as highways.

  • Identify appropriate modified equipment, such as hand controls, if applicable.

At the conclusion of the evaluation, the client will be provided with feedback as to their potential for driving and recommendations for additional therapy needs or behind the wheel training if indicated.
